That’s resistance, and it’s one of the biggest obstacles standing between you and reaching your goals.
Resistance is the invisible, insidious force that keeps us from doing what we know we should be doing.
It’s the voice in our head that tells us we’re not good enough, that we’ll never succeed, or that we should just give up. Resistance is what keeps us from taking action, from pursuing our dreams, and from living our best lives.
But what if I told you that you can overcome resistance? That you can push through the fear, self-doubt, and procrastination and achieve your goals?
It’s true – and once you understand the nature of resistance, why it’s so powerful, and how you can overcome it – your success is inevitable.
Resistance is any force that opposes or impedes forward motion. It can manifest in many forms, including fear, self-doubt, procrastination, distraction, and addiction. Resistance is what keeps us from doing what we know we should be doing, whether that’s starting a new project, writing a book, or launching a business.
Resistance is a universal force that affects everyone, from artists and entrepreneurs to athletes and students. It’s the voice in our head that tells us we’re not good enough, that we’ll never succeed, or that we should just give up. Resistance is the force that keeps us stuck in our comfort zone, afraid to take risks or step outside of our routine.
Resistance is powerful because it’s invisible. We can’t see it, touch it, or measure it, but we can feel its effects. It’s like a weight that’s always present, holding us down and keeping us from moving forward. Resistance is also powerful because it’s self-generating. The more we resist, the stronger it becomes.
Resistance is also powerful because it’s insidious. It can disguise itself as rationalization, justification, or procrastination. We might tell ourselves that we don’t have enough time, that we’re not ready yet, or that we need to do more research before we can start. These are all forms of resistance, and they keep us from taking action.
Overcoming resistance is not easy, but it’s essential if you want to achieve your goals. Here are some strategies you can use to overcome resistance and move forward:
The first step to overcoming resistance is to recognize it. You need to be aware of the self-doubt, fear, and procrastination that are holding you back. Once you recognize resistance, you can start to work on overcoming it.
The best way to overcome resistance is to take action. Start small, but start. Take the first step, and then the next.
Don’t wait for inspiration or motivation; just start. Action creates momentum, and momentum is the key to overcoming resistance.
Resistance is often strongest when we’re focused on the outcome rather than the process. We might worry about whether we’ll succeed, or whether our work will be good enough. Instead, focus on the process.
Focus on the work itself, and the steps you need to take to achieve your goal.
Setting goals is essential if you want to overcome resistance. Goals give you something to work towards, and they provide a sense of direction and purpose. Set realistic, achievable goals, and then break them down into smaller, manageable steps.
And finally, overcoming resistance is difficult to do alone. Find a support system, whether it be a coach, a mastermind, a good friend or a colleague… you’ll find that if you have friends or a community behind you, it’s easier to move through the resistance that is inevitable when it comes to chasing our dreams.
And this is why I’ve created my free Rock Your Purpose community – so that you can have a community of like-minded individuals that get you and your journey… so that you have a resource to help you move through the resistance – and RISE up despite it all.
